‘fear(s) of the dark’ really is a classy production all around, belonging to the school of dread that sinks into your mind and messes with your perceptions of the trim sunlit world, as opposed to the less introspective hack-and-slash, gore-for-gore’s-sake movies that are more likely to plant butts in theatre seats.

beautifully bewitching in dismal and white, each segment represents the work and style of a different animator, each of whom is probably better known as a cartoonist. the variety of styles represented is very delicate to the eye; each very different from the last, yet meshing together rather than working against each other. thematically, each segment deals with alarm on a very intimate, very personal level: isolation, persecution, struggle, invasion, betrayal. where does the right ‘dark’ originate and our perception of it demolish? i’ll be thinking this one over for a while – with the lights on.

having read the other review (at this time, there is only one) on amazon, i’ll admit i was puzzled: isn’t this unbiased a dismay movie? what’s with the politicking? fortunately, that reviewer had no conception what he or she was talking about. this is, to my eyes, an agenda-free film, and hooray for that.

it seems unlikely, in this age of unlimited ’saw’ sequels, prequels and knockoffs, that a movie like this could ever be well-liked for any kind of funding. i’m awfully overjoyed it did, though – it’s a keeper.

Not being released yet due to its controversial subject matter and the fact our government composed considers France’s going against U.S. policy traitorous to our goals in the Middle East, this movie portrays the difficulties of the French people in trying to adjust to the every changing political climate of the world. An animation by 5 world distinguished French cartoonist. The same subject matter is not censored for American film makers for instance “Lord of Wars” has not been censored. Political cartoonists have never been sanctioned by a ruling party in any country that I know of and classical novels such as “Catcher in the Rye”, “Farewell to Arms”. “1984″, “The Grapes of Wrath”, “Gone With the Wind” were all banned at one time in the U.S. I assume myself fortunate to have been able to rent a copy and hope others will check it out. It depicts how our fears accomplish us prisoners. It sends an suitable message which hits home with almost everyone.

Great Charger
This charger is awsome. I keep in the trunk of my car, and man it comes in handy. I have only had to re-charge this item 3 or 4 times in the last 2 years. I keep it in my trunk, and even with 1 bar left on the battery gauge it still has no problem jumping off a car. When ever I jump a car off, i just leave it pluged up to the car for an additional 5 or 6 minutes and it replenishes the charge. Its also slim and not too bulky like alot of the other brands I’ve used in the past. It doesn’t have alot of complicated items on it either, it just simply does what its supposed to do, and that means alot in a jam.

Well worth every penny
Purchased in November and have used 4x since then (its now mid-february). Used to start my own vehicle with dead battery when there was noone around who could have jumped me (so it was a real life saver), used to help a stranded motorist who was parked in a such away that using typical jumper cables would have been near impossible, used to start a vehicle I was looking at purchasing, and then used to power my cell phone at my desk when the power was out at our office (the 12 volt cigarette adapter is a nice feature). After all of these uses and being kept in the cold car for over 3 months it still didn’t even drop a bar!

Must have item
I have bought alot of bad boxes in my days of road service, but this one gets my highest grade. I can crank an old 70’s clunker until i give up, not the box(excellent cold cranking amps). This power pack will finish the day out with jumping 6 to 8 cars(completly dead batteries or some with no battery) without needing to be recharged for the next days activities. I only charge this unit maybe once a week.

Truly the Best Netbook on the Market
I’ve not been a fan of that many netbooks out there, but this little guy really blew me away. I got to compare this netbook up against netbooks from ASUS, Acer, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and Gateway (a pretty exhaustive line-up). There was a sharp contrast between Dell’s Mini 10 series and netbooks made by the other companies. To me, the buying decision really came down to comfort and ingenuity of its design. I find others choosing this model mostly for the same reasons.

===== It’s Comfortable =====
This thing is a dream to use. Most netbooks are unusable to me. What stings me most with netbooks is the keyboard. I’m used to the low-profile, “chiclet-style” scissor-switch keyboards that are (or at least used to be) most common in laptops, and in fact I love them. I’m referring to the type of keys that are flat and flush with the palm rest, and have a little flange or lip on the edges (where the space is between the keys). To see exactly what I mean, check out the close ups here on the right (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00361G10S?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8#productDescription). These types of keyboards make typing a breeze, as they won’t inflict wrist strain due to tall keys or keys that require more force to press.

===== It’s Innovative =====
The touch pad is small, yet clever, allowing you to press down on the bottom-left/bottom-right corners of the pad to left-click/right-click (respectively), rather than wasting space by implementing separate buttons. The touch pad is also very touchable, as its texture and finish is matte, rather than glossy, making it much more conducive to swiping your fingers across than most of the other netbooks I laid fingers on. Most netbooks’ touch pads were glossy, making your skin shear and resist the dragging gestures. I find such a feeling to be nearly as annoying as fingernails on a chalkboard! The other netbooks were also noticeably covered in oily smudges and finger grease, both inside the track pad and also on the wrist rest. Instant turn off for me on anything but the Dell! The Mini 10 on the other hand was smudge free, thanks to their use of an oil-resistant softly-textured palm-rest.

===== It’s Brilliant =====
The display is crisp and bright, and it isn’t too shabby outside either, though I recommend using full brightness when being used outdoors. My only complaint about the screen is its native resolution is a bit low for my tastes, which I hope isn’t just a personal preference. I’d rather see more on the screen than to see things big and close up. However, this is par for netbooks anyway. You should look into this Sony (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PII4HW?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8) if you absolutely must have a higher definition display while maintaining the small form factor of a netbook.

===== It’s Media Friendly =====
The built in HD media excellerator and the 9:16 ratio widescreen 10.1″ display is great for watching hi-def movies on the go, with one very important exception: you must have an external DVD (or Blu-Ray) drive. I recommend this Samsung (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002C1BBU8?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8) which sports a sexy look, on par with the Dell ’s own appeal, without sacrificing functionality. Video playback is generally smooth and very few hiccups in playback have been experienced.

===== It’s Stylish =====
You wont mind being seen with one of these, especially given the choice of colors, you can’t go wrong in customizing. Dell really puts their feet forward in coming through on their philosophy of customization. Some people buy netbooks for the look. If you’re one of these vain PC users, you’ll rest easy knowing you’ve got one sexy looking netbook! I chose the white, personally.

===== It’s Capable =====
The Dell Mini isn’t exactly your run of the mill netbook. Sure, it can do what the others do, and I’ve typically used it for writing and surfing the Web (after all, surfing was the original presmise of the netbook, hense the name). Just be sure to keep your browser tabs to a minimum and not install too many Firefox extensions, and you’ll be fine. But it plays media, including Web videos, Flash sites and Flash games, at a decent pace. As long as you aren’t trying to multi-task by running several other programs at once, you should be just fine.

Windows 7 starters is an ideal OS for the netbook, and it even outperforms XP in several areas, so you can’t go wrong in using it. The memory card reader is an added bonus. I didn’t think it would be all that useful, but it is a life-saver when traveling.

===== Processor and Battery =====
The Dell Mini 1012 features the Intel Atom N450, a 64-bit-capable single-core processor supporting 2GB max ram. It supports Hyper Threading, so mild (but not wild) multi-tasking is possible, within reason. Try not to run more than two apps simultaneously for best performance and battery life. Intel Speedstep Technology is also built in, helping you save battery life. We averaged about 7-8 hours compared to the boasted 9.5 using the 60WHr 6 cell battery.

===== What I Loved =====
* Keyboard design – 92% full-size!
* Touch pad design – genius usability features
* Wrist rest – comfortable, remains clean/streak-free
* 3 USB ports – 2-left/1-right is dandy for using a USB mouse
* Windows 7 – Vista isn’t optimized for netbooks, 7 is
* 9:16 ratio display – great for movies (see above for DVD solution)
* Keyboard + Touch pad design – seriously! It hits the mark spot-on!

===== Dissapointments =====
The things we would have liked to see were:
* 802.11n support – the future is here!
* 1024×600 resolution – would have preferred at least 1280×720
* 5400 RPM hard drive -would have liked a faster SSD (even if smaller)

This is a good one, but they call it a netbook and not a notebook, for a reason
Why 4 stars versus 5? The difference between ‘I like it’ and ‘I love it’. I do like it! I like netbooks for web surfing and emailing, video chat via Skype and little else. Ideally the mini would have a DVD drive, more storage space, a better webcam and THEN I’d love it, but then it would probably be a notebook.

I purchased this item for my 12 year old daughter to access the internet to play online games (Disney’s Club Penguin and Neopets), do basic research for reports and access her email. I wanted something that was ultra-portable, the right size for her small hands, possessing a brilliant display and a good battery life. I went to Dell first because I trust the brand. The Dell Inspiron Mini… did not disappoint.

What I like about it…

1. Great battery life with the 6-cell battery. Averages about 6 hours of solid use with the 6-cell. It does add to the thickness of the back of the unit, but it still fits easily into the case I purchased for it. Targus CityGear Netbook Case for up to 10.2 Inch Netbooks- Black and Grey TSM097US
2. The display is bright and clear.
3. The keyboard, while smaller than the full-sized one, is adequate and responsive.
4. The wireless connection is quick despite not being ‘n-network’ capable.

What I wish was better…

1. Less heat! The bottom of the unit gets quite hot. I have to say this worries me. Longevity may be an issue.
2. The finish on the netbook is shiny. I wish it was more fingerprint resistant. I love the glossy black finish, but it does show every smudge.

What I’d love to see in the next generation of netbooks…

DVD drive, n-network ready and HDMI capabilities…with the same price point, battery life and mobility. Yes, I’m really talking about an ideal ‘notebook’ now, but can you blame me? I love the idea of a full-service mini notebook, and I’m sure we’re headed in that direction with the Dell Inspiron Minis.

Mine came with Windows XP, not Windows 7, but I’ve used both and they seem equally zippy to me when accessing the Net. I am pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone who would wants portability, speed and quality to access the internet, at a low price point.

I would not recommend purchasing this product if you have large hands, want to watch movies on your laptop (this could be done by purchasing this item: Samsung USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive for Mac and PC SE-S084C/RSBN (Gloss Black), or wish to do video or photo editing; requiring more computing power – even with a proper amount of storage provided by a Patriot Memory Extreme Performance Xporter Magnum – USB flash drive – 64 GB – 210x – Hi-Speed USB or a Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1 TB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDBABM0010BBK-NESN (Midnight Black).

However, if you know that you want a ‘netbook’ and not a ‘notebook’… and understand its limitations…the Dell Inspiron Mini is a good choice!

Problem with touch screen click button
Just purchased this computer. I thought the touchscreen left and right click buttons would be helpful, but after using it, I found it to be a hindrance. The main problem is that you cannot use two hands to navigate as you can on a regular laptop mouse set-up. I often left click with my left index finger, and sweep with my right. This is particularly evident when you try to highlight text. When you press down on the left click button, and also finger over the touch pad to color the text, the mouse wants to navigate in both directions (for each finger) and makes it very difficult to try to get the pointer to hover over one spot.
Very frustrating, and a deal breaker in my case.

On a positive, I can say I absolutely love the keyboard. Quality wise, It is OK, and I do like how the ac plug comes straight out the back which helps prevent side pressures on the plug. It is also a beefy plug, unlike the Esus which has the small adapter pin. The ac adapter itself is as compact as it could be.

Sony MDR-EX700’s
The Sony MDR-EX700lp’s are simply the best IEM model that I’ve owned. Before purchasing these, I’ve owned the Sony MDR-EX300s. Since I was happy with the Sony MDR-EX300s, I decided to upgrade to the Sony MDR-EX700s. These pair of earbuds really emphasize the high end, while still giving a solid mid-bass. My only concern is that the low-bass is somewhat lacking. However, the sound is crystal clear and very WARM. I do not find the highs harsh at all. I find that the overemphasis on highs helps to bring out the outstanding clarity of sound that the Sony MDR-EX700s produce. I still have to burn these in, and after a couple of hours or so I am hoping that a little more bass kicks in. However, I am very pleased with the overall sound quality of the Sony MDR-EX700s.

*UPDATE* 10/18/09
It’s been a little more than 50 hours of burn-in, and I am happy to report that the bass has increased quite a bit, while the sibilance has become non-existent. The Sony MDR-EX700s have greater clarity, balance, and precision than ever before. The lows and mids are very controlled, with a bass that has increased over time. I find that with dynamic drivers, it takes some burn-in time for the bass to increase. The highs are still very much emphasized. This combination provides a great balance and overall clarity that puts the Sony MDR-EX700s up there with the best high end IEM models. Overall, I am very impressed with the Sony MDR-EX700lp’s now that the sibilance has gone away and the bass has settled in.

*UPDATE* 11/12/09
After listening to the Sony EX-700’s for about 100-200 hours now, I can honestly say that the sound continues to get better. The sound is very detailed, and well-balanced. In comparing them with the previous IEM models that I’ve owned, such as the Sony EX-300lps, Sennheiser CX-500s, and Klipsch Image S4, I can truly say that the soundstage is brought out so much more, especially the mids and highs. The bass has become more present, and is at a rather pleasant level, without being too overpowering. With the previous IEM models that I used, I found that the bass overpowered the mids and highs, which caused them to be a bit muddy. However, this is not the case with the EX700s. I am still very pleased with them, and have had no cable problems at all, though I must say I have taken very good care of them.

As the owner of the full spectrum of earbud style headphone — from ipod included crap-phones to top of the line Shures– I place these ‘phone near the top of the spectrum. They’re not really worth the $300 asking price, but 30-50 % off that (which most retailers are selling them for) is about right. Sound (after 10 hours of breaking them in) is tight and crisp, without sounding overly bright at higher volumes. The buds have a sort of classic Sony sound — not part of the bass-midrange- treble mix is over-emphasized, which makes for a generally pleasing sound. Fit and comfort is top of the line, tho — the variety of color-coded bud tips supplied is unequaled, and the unit itself is light yet surprisingly sturdy and unobtrusive. An elaborate storage case with molded compartments for each phone to sit it, is also included. The only negative, I suppose, is the quality of the cord itself, which feels thin and perhaps prone to breakage. But for $150 (the price I paid) the 700’s are recomended.

Sony MDR-EX700LP vs. Sony MDR-EX700SL earphones: Why you stand to win big.
All the fuss about “fake” Sony earphones is off the mark. The so-called “clones,” still available on other sites, are the predecessors of the updated model. If you’re looking for inarguably the best bargain in earphones, have no hesitations about spending a pittance for top-of-the-line phones. Here’s what the firestorm is actually about:

1. The original pair of top-of-the-line Sony phones, going for three hundred, were called “Premium MDR-EX700SL” headphones; the updated models (primarily to satisfy the desires of the American consumer), are called “Supreme MDR-EX700LP” headphones.

2. If you’r unsure which pair you happen to have (I have both), there are some quick and easy tests. First, is the cosmetic one: The prior, SL model has a shorter cord (4 feet) than the new, LP model (6 feet–no doubt the longest cord of any earphones). 2nd, the prior model has an audio plug that extends straight out from the cable; the newer model has a plug that is attached at a right angle to the end of the cord.

3. Peripherals and accessories. The prior, SL models are being sold in a soft leather pouch that closes with velcro. The new, LP model comes with a hard, leather-covered metal case that jack-knifes open. The SL models come with 1-3 different-sized silicone ear tips; the new, LP model comes with a record 7 different-sized silicone hybrid ear tips.

4. The difference in sonic quality. Unless you have both phones, this will be the most difficult distinction to note. The earlier SL models are full-frequencied, with a rich and warm mid-range and “understated” high and low end. They “wear” extremely well, especially for extended listening to jazz, classical, instrumental music. The newer LP models have been “tweaked” in the high end (they’re more brilliant, with highs that immediately get the listener’s attention) and the low (they’ve been tuned to take full advantage of the extra- large drivers (3 X the size of some phones going for a hundred or more). Again, the appeal is to the bass hungry, youthful American audiophile audience. The older SL phones have the same size drivers and are capable of producing all of the pitches, or frequencies, of a non-compressed audio file, but they’re not altered in a way to knock the socks off the prospective buyer.

My first pair of Sony 700s were the SL models. They came directly from Amazon, and included all of the cosmetic accessories mentioned above (#3). But upon ordering one of the Hong Kong “dirt-cheap” models, I became aware that someone had “swapped out” models with my Amazon phones, replacing the LP with the SP model. After communications with Sony (like Amazon, a first-rate, reliable, consumer-friendly company), the company made things right for me, sending me the latest LP model with the extra-long cord and angled plug. I was immediately impressed by the brilliant highs and the omnipresent lows. But soon I found myself going back to the the SL phones.

In sum, the latest Sony–the Supreme MDR-EX700LP phones–have been updated and “re-tuned” to suit the fancies of the American marketplace and will doubtlessly be appreciated by many listeners of today’s popular music. The older phones are still the audio summit when it comes to listening to unforced, uncolored, flat-response (no artificial spikes or enhancement) instrumental music. But in either case, you can’t go wrong. After listening to dozens of these things, I’ve heard five dollar phones that surpass two hundred dollar phones, but I’ve never heard anything better than either of the Sony phones discussed above.

If most of your listening is to compressed MP3 files, you may wish to consider the MDR-EX300 or MDR-EX500 models, both of which have smaller (but still ample) drivers), capable of pumping out bass frequencies in the mid-range that many younger listeners appear to thrive on. Again, all of the considerations apply, as both of the above are available in SL models (at giveaway prices) and LP models. Heck, buy one of each, or at least extras of the SL models. They’re so cheap you have nothing to lose. Use the SL models when you’re active and putting the phones at risk; save the LP models for more immobile, serious listening.

First Speed Features brings us a boxed situation of wonderful documentaries about Nazi Germany that give insight into the demented mind of the Third Reich. Also included is amateur film footage of Germany in ruins.

The collection is made up of four films that probe the most disgraceful period in the history of the world and that give insight into how it all came to happen.

“Television Under the Swastika” examines television and how it was primitive in the second World War as a source of propaganda and as entertainment. It is an improbable eye at an industry that many deem was begun in America but that, in actuality, was ancient not only as a medium for entertainment but as a blueprint to poison minds.

“The Goebbels Experiment” looks at the method Joseph Goebbels manipulated mass political thought thus making Nazi propaganda to become the most frightening in history. There is no commentary as it is not notable. The diaries of Goebbels say for themselves and the film is a reminder that manipulating minds is the most essential goal of society.

“Firestorm” deals with the losses of aircraft during attacks on German factories in order to destroy German morale and chop down the number of workers available to go into the Nazi war machine. Bombers hit Dresden and Hamburg as well as other cities. We perceive at the interrogate if this was merely revenge against Hitler or was it a indispensable tactic. The film contains rare footage and interviews with historians and pilots that were fervent.

“The Reich Underground” looks at one blueprint the Nazis tried to bring the war succor to their favor by building an extensive tunnel system in order to lift care of factories and Nazi leaders. This was a contrivance to fabricate original weapons with which the Nazis hoped to utilize to become victorious. Eventually these tunnels were sealed off by the American army and they are reopened here. We peek previously unreleased film and listen to interviews and we sight a world that was created beneath the earth.

While I was disappointed that this was not the ABC Circle Films mini series, “Inside the Third Reich”, the memoir of Albert Speer’s role in the third reich, I was pleasantly surpised by the four documentries that were included in the state. I would have been even happier had it been the Rutger Hauer mini series. I guess it pays to wait for the description before ordering. I’ll have dig out my laser discs and player and effect my hold dvd version, until Disney decides to assure the mini series on dvd.
